July in Malawi in Pictures
What follows is a quick review of Seibo’s activities in July 2021. As previously reported school feeding resumed in Malawi in June only to be cancelled soon after due to COVID-related concerns. As a result our team in Malawi have been left with little choice but to once more put in place measures to provide take home rations for all registered primary school students.
Having put in place preparations for school feeding, food was already distributed among all Seibo partner schools so to avoid wastage it was an easy decision to utilise these stocks first. As a result between the 15th to the 22nd of July our team in Malawi conducted a food distribution exercise that resulted in 12,600 primary school students receiving approximately 64,475kgs of ‘phala’ foodstuff. Needless to say the children and their families were delighted.
Challenges Remain
Having acknowledged that those who received foodstuffs went away happy we must also acknowledge the cooperation of our primary school partners in enabling this ‘last-minute’ food distribution. However challenges remain- many schools had incomplete records of registered students which is an area we will work with them on improving. In addition, the access roads to several schools pose challenges that will be further worsened in the event of inclement weather. With this in mind we plan to continue discussing with our partners as to how best to overcome these challenges should school feeding remain off the menu!
Finally a note to you, as a Seibo donor! Thank you- for your enduring patience over the last year and a bit and for your enduring kindness. On behalf of the children of Malawi we say thank you!
