Mie Prefectural Shiroko High School is actively promoting learning related to school meal support in Malawi and fair trade as part of its educational initiatives. As a part of this effort, the school’s library café will be serving Malawi coffee. This offers students a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of international issues and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society!
Pre-Lessons and Materials Creation
As part of this initiative, Shiroko High School is also conducting pre-lessons. In these classes, students learn about the current situation in Malawi and the basic concepts of fair trade, which has allowed them to develop a concrete awareness of the issues at hand. This not only enables students to acquire knowledge but also to deepen their thinking towards real problem-solving.
Students have also created displays for the café as a presentation of their learning for their peers. Such efforts help students actively receive messages and enhance the depth of their learning outcomes.
Malawi Coffee served at the Library Café
The Malawi coffee provided at the library café can be seen as a symbolic part of practical international understanding initiatives. While tasting high-quality coffee from Malawi, students have the opportunity to experience an international perspective. Through this coffee, they can appreciate the significance of fair trade and consider the importance of supporting local farmers and communities.
Offering Malawi coffee is not just about enjoying a beverage; it is also an act of respecting the stories and efforts of the producers behind it. Students are encouraged to reflect on the production process and market positioning of the coffee while enjoying it, further deepening their learning experience!
