Your donations are used to fund school feeding programmes in schools in Malawi. Before food can be delivered most schools or nurseries will need a school kitchen area.
Let’s have a look at what makes up a typical Seibo school kitchen.
In Malawi, a country where the use of wood stoves and the burning of wood on open fires is widespread, deforestation is a problem. As such institutional rocket stoves, designed to use less firewood than an open fire, are the preferred option for schools.
With sizes varying from 50 to 200 litres the steel stoves are available from several makers in Malawi.
Rocket stoves produce 80% less carbon monoxide and with reduced smoke omissions the cooking environment is healthier and cleaner. Cooks also appreciate the extra height as the food served at school is a kind of porridge that needs a lot of stirring.
Compared to the traditional cooking method using three stones the rocket stoves require less supervision and food can be cooked in advance and kept warm for a longer time. For added safety we have enclosed our stoves with safety walls using wind-dried bricks made locally.
The food itself is prepared by volunteers and served to nursery children in plates allowing the piping hot porridge to cool down. For Primary schools the kids prefer to have a mug of food!
In our lives we all look forward to sharing a hot meal with others. Thanks to you we can do the same for the children of Malawi. Thanks for caring.
