Seibo at 5 Years Old!
Date:2021.02.11

5 Years Old on the 11th of February

As of February 11th, 2021 Seibo mark the 5th anniversary of serving school meals in Malawi. Our existence is thanks to you- our donors, our sponsors and our supporters. While it is not a time of celebration, we do wish to register our gratitude to everyone who has made our work possible.

Vital Meal Provision
5 years ago today-thanks to the team working at the Mother Teresa Children’s Centre in Malawi, Seibo took its first steps. In a nursery school in Chilomoni township, a few kilometres from Blantyre City a global movement quietly launched- see article.

Seibo Today- 5 Years On

The work carried out today on your behalf is as vital today as it was the day we begun.
A hot meal at school can make the difference between attending school or not. During a pandemic the emergency food packs being delivered to families of young children is the difference between having a breakfast or not. The provision of food- at school or at home- is vital for the future of Malawi’s children.

In an average school year we are now providing over 3 million meals a year to over 15,000 children. From primary schools in Northern Malawi to CBCCs & nursery schools in Southern Malawi your kindness is daily making a difference in people’s lives. Our journey together can be viewed in presentation format here!

Malawi Today
As we write all schools in Malawi are still closed by government decree. In response our team on the ground have alternated between school feeding (when open) to distribution of food packs to all registered students ensuring enough food- not only for weekdays- but to meet the daily needs of the child.

Without any welfare system or financial support to fall back on many parents of young children have lost work with no hope on the horizon due to the pandemic. The poorest families were vulnerable even before the pandemic began and their plight has only worsened. Kids at home are not receiving adequate schooling support if any and the situation worsens on a daily basis.

The provision of emergency food packs can be the difference in having hope or not and can lessen the burden carried by parents who are struggling at times to put a meal on the table- even one meal a day. To you our donors we share these stories with gratitude as thanks to you we are able to make this difference- the most recent stories can be read here.

After 5 years we are humbled and grateful to have been entrusted to carry out this work on your behalf. With your help we will continue to support the poorest of the poor and ensure as many children can receive a hot meal at school daily. Our work however is by no means complete and a little can make a big difference. If you can donate to support our work in Malawi click here– thank you!
