Peace Building Seminar in Miyazaki
Date:2024.08.23

At the peacebuilding seminar held in Miyazaki Prefecture, we were able to feature coffee from Malawi. This opportunity was made possible with the cooperation of students from Miyazaki International College, who I met at the Global Leadership Seminar in March 2023.

Peacebuilding from Miyazaki and Support for Malawi
Miyazaki International College, high school students from Miyazaki Prefecture, and the NPO Seibo are working together to enrich the future of Africa, where the population is expected to grow, through school meal support in Malawi. Although Malawi is a small, landlocked country and one of the poorest, it has a young population and has never experienced war. From Malawi, we can learn a lot by considering the future and being mindful of peace in our activities.

Peacebuilding between Japan and Malawi
Between Japan and Malawi, there have been many volunteer dispatches, including through JICA. During the Great East Japan Earthquake, rice flour was sent as school meals from Iwate Prefecture to Malawi. At the same time, Malawi also sent relief funds to Japan after the disaster. We want to continue and pass on this international social change, driven by such contributions, and build peace.

What We Can Do
To this end, we are selling coffee and tea that connect local farms and school meals for the children who will shape Malawi’s future. Japan is one of the top five coffee-consuming countries in the world. We hope that by enjoying coffee, people will remember Malawi, and through the rich taste of high-quality specialty coffee and the story of support behind it, feel warmth in both body and spirit.

Miyazaki International College and high school students from Miyazaki Prefecture are turning their thoughts into a brand and spreading the school meal support of Seibo’s Warm Hearts Coffee Club. By raising awareness of Malawi as a personal issue and engaging in peacebuilding activities, they are concretely involving Japan in these efforts!

We would be grateful for your support of the university and high school students’ activities. You can learn more about purchasing coffee and their activities here!
