Life Update: Laundry and School
In late April, Malawi has gradually started to cool down. Being in the Southern Hemisphere, the seasons are almost opposite to Japan. Winter will come from now until June-July.
Life Update: Laundry
Many Malawian households do not have washing machines. Like everyone else, I also wash clothes by hand using a bucket and detergent every day. On sunny days, clothes dry quickly when hung outside. On days off, I wake up early in the morning and spend about an hour hand-washing clothes. Sometimes we experience water shortages in the middle of washing. It’s quite different from Japan, but it makes us appreciate water more.
End of Second Term
In Japan, I think it’s the time when the new school year starts in April, marking the beginning of a new year, but in Malawi, the school year starts in September, so students continue in the same grade. In mid-April, there were exams marking the end of the second term. It’s a large school with over 2800 students, so taking exams in classrooms often leads to cheating incidents. Therefore, almost all classes took exams under the open sky. Even students in support classes had exams, and their scores are being graded.
Students who perform well are recognized in front of everyone. The report with exam scores is called the “School Report.”
