Starting in December 2020, Seibo have worked with the students and staff of Nagano Seisen Ladies High School in Nagano Prefecture. To date we organised several online lectures with our Malawian counterparts during which the students could ask and learn about Malawi. In addition, the students themselves organised events, such as selling Malawian coffee to raise funds for charity.
Through these activities the school came to the attention of MEXT (Japan’s Ministry for Education, Culture, Sports, Science & Technology) as a good example of international cooperation! The school now features in an official government publication, a recognition in itself of the school’s efforts. The article cited here from MEXT also includes mention of Seibo’s activities, for which we are both grateful and humbled.
In the midst of the pandemic, many colleges in Japan were hampered in their efforts at collaborating with international partners or unable to send students overseas. The initiatives implemented by the students at Nagano Seisen Ladies High School therefore offer great hope to other schools seeking to do something similar.
For more details (in Japanese) check out this report on the MEXT website (Seibo’s collaboration with Nagano Seisen appears on slide No. 27.
To all the students and staff at Nagano Seisen we thank you!
