What is a CBCC?
CBCC stands for ‘Community-Based Childcare Centres’. Located primarily in poor & rural areas there are approximately 6,000 CBCCs in Malawi. Operating as both feeding stations & nurseries the CBCC network is vital in bringing food & care to the most vulnerable children. However most CBCCs struggle with extremely limited resources and rely on unpaid volunteers from communities with high levels of poverty. In this post we introduce the Makapwa CBCC- a Seibo partner since 2016.
About Makawpwa CBCC
Of the 9 x CBCC partners in Malawi which are supported by Seibo’s school feeding, Makapwa is the most isolated with no access for vehicles. Despite being isolated and far from any urban centres the community work hard to ensure the children of the community are both fed & educated. Now that school feeding has once again resumed we paid a visit recently to provide ‘refresher training’ to the Volunteer Cook/Caregiver and wanted to share the images with you, our donor, to thank you for your support and also to share the joys & challenges facing Malawi’s CBCCs.
Thank You!
