A volunteer team of three high school students from Shizuoka Salesio High School held a Malawian coffee sales event at Hori Terrace in front of Sunpu Castle in Aoi Ward, Shizuoka Prefecture. For the third-year students, this was their last event.
In terms of providing school meals in Malawi, the event raised funds for approximately 2,200 meals!
The students from Shizuoka Salesio have always worked with us during the school festival “Salesio Festival” and have connections with Shizuoka Futaba High School. They collaborate on events such as the “Shizuoka Industrial Fair,” and are actively implementing their own projects in external events.
This time, the event was held near Sunpu Castle in Aoi Ward, a popular tourist destination in Shizuoka, to coincide with the cherry blossom season.
They served Malawian coffee in small cups, raising funds through a tasting event, collecting donations of 15 yen per cup, which is roughly equivalent to the cost of one meal in Malawi.
Moreover, the students came up with a unique idea of creating a fortune-telling activity to predict the fate of the new year, which cost 15 yen per draw. This provided an opportunity for participants to learn about Malawi along with their fortunes.
As a result, more people stopped by and purchased Malawian coffee powder, beans, and drip packs.
It is hoped that high school students will grow by coming up with their own ideas and participating in charity activities!
