Nursery Intro Series- Dedoma- 6
Date:2015.11.25

School feeding Start Date: 15th April 2016
Dedoma Nursery, DeSilva
NURSERY CLOSED (see below for details)
The children at Dedoma nursery are housed in a brick building built only so high, leaving the top section open for ventilation. A corrugated iron roof sits haphazardly above. Close to the edge of Desilva, Dedoma feels tatty/ dilapidated. The courtyard is scattered with bricks and stacks of wood, leaving the area unsafe to play in.
Dedoma (1)
Stepping into Dedoma nursery you are greeted by a red rocking horse and immediately on the left there is a small side room. Through a small pass way, you come to the main square room in which the children mainly attend classes. Off shooting that room, there are several other, small rooms that could be utilized for storage purposes. Preparation space to the side of the building.
There is a toilet onsite. Water is collected from a tap 10 or so meters away from the nursery.
The children at Dedoma number 17, but early in November there were just 9: 7 boys and 3 girls. Ages 2-5 years old. 1 teacher was present, though there are 2. The explanation for absences on the day of our visit was the time of the month and parents not affording fees. The fees are 3000 kwacha per month for the older children and 2000 for the younger ones.

Update: It is with great disappointment that despite having started school feeding at this nursery in April 2016 we have now ended the partnership with Dedoma Nursery. The last delivery of food was made on the 24th of August for the month of September. However, following reports of mismanagement of resources the school was formally notified on the 12th of October 2016 that Seibo school feeding would end until further notice. Since then the school has closed which is a great disappointment to all of us.
For Seibo to make an impact however it is an imperative that we help those who really need help as well as utilise resources for their intended purpose.
All beneficiaries under the Seibo Kids Nursery Scholarship Programme were moved to other partner nursery schools. The rocket stove and pot have been moved to a new nursery and continue to serve their purpose.
