Students from the Department of Nursing at Sophia University interviewed an associate professor at Sophia University and have compiled an article on gender equality and climate change. (You can view the article here.)
In this activity, Seibo also discussed how women in Malawi are experiencing changes in their daily lives due to climate change and what challenges are emerging from their social positions. I hope the episodes from Malawi serve as concrete examples. You can view the specific episodes here.
In our daily lives, we often do not strongly perceive how climate change affects women’s lives. However, in developing countries, women who experience pregnancy and childbirth or are subjected to physically demanding work such as fetching water due to gender roles are greatly impacted by climate change, such as rising temperatures.
In Malawi, many women can find time for work and reduce the burden of meal preparation at home by providing school meals for their children. I hope we can appreciate our current situation and pay attention to what is happening around the world as we continue living.
