Chilomoni Nursery, Nthukwa

The Chilomoni Nursery school is located in Nthukwa.
There are 32 children enrolled at this nursery, but only 15 were present on the day of our visit. The children range between 14 months and 4 years old.
Fees for the younger children are 4500 kwacha per month and 3500 for those aged 2-4 years.
The children provide their own food as none is provided by the nursery.

The nursery is located in one building but there are a number of other buildings on the same site. The nursery building is a basic brick building with a corrugated iron roof. The windows are small and just about provide enough light and ventilation. Inside there are a number of plastic chairs, a reed mat and some posters on the wall.
On the outside a combination of walls and fencing surround the plot keeping it secure.
Our team in Malawi noted that there were several children showing symptoms of kwashiorkor which is an illness associated with severe protein-energy malnutrition. The symptoms include a distended abdomen and swollen ankles and feet.
It is within our ability to solve this problem and again we remind you that we will be asking for your help in the coming weeks.

Update: Unfortunately the Chilomoni PVT Nursery is now closed. The nursery had not been operational every day in 2019 and while we did not receive any formal letter by August of 2020 we ended our partnership. Seibo will continue to support the most needy kids in our community through the Seibo Kids Programme until an alternative nursery can be found to provide school feeding.
